The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) isan independent State agency that regulates Marylands $46 billion insuranceindustry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers andinsurance professionals compliance with State members aresubject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers consumers andother public and private entities.
The MIA is charged with a broad range ofresponsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insuranceproducers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland the conduct of financialexaminations of companies to monitor financial solvency and the review andapproval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumerfraud and consumer complaints about life health automobile homeownersand/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to marketconduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Marylandlaw.The MIAalso has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach whichparticipates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individualconsumers annually.
The Property and CasualtyComplaints Insurance Investigator assists the citizens of Maryland with theirwritten or verbal complaints and inquiries to ensure that insurers and theirrepresentatives premium finance companies motor clubs and all others overwhich we have jurisdiction have complied with the applicable laws and therelevant terms of insurance policies when settling claims canceling ornonrenewing insurance policies or taking any other action with respect to thecomplainants. Formal investigations are initiated upon receipt of writtencomplaints and investigated by written inquiries and responses between theInvestigator licensee and complainant. Investigators provide management with aproposed decision letter citing compliance with or violation of relevantMaryland insurance law and policy terms and conditions at the conclusion ofeach complaint investigation. Investigators may be called upon to preparefiles for administrative hearings and /or to provide testimony at suchhearings.
This is a hybrid incumbent will be required to work in the office located at 200 St. PaulPlace 26thfloor two days a weekand three days remotely.
Insurance Investigator II
Education: Bachelorsdegree from an accredited college or university in Insurance Business orrelated fields.
Experience:Oneyear of experience in theproperty and casualty industry as aninvestigator adjuster underwriter or agent.
Note:
1. Four yearsofexperience in the property and casualty insurance industry as an investigatoradjuster underwriter or agent may be substituted for the educationrequirement.
2. A minimum of three (3)years experience working within the Maryland Insurance Administration oranother states insurance regulatory agency in a property and casualtycapacity as an investigator examiner enforcement officer customer servicerepresentative or administrative support capacity may be substituted for theeducation requirement.
3. Possession of J.D. degree may substitute for minimumqualifications
Insurance Investigator III
Education: Bachelorsdegree from an accredited college or university in Insurance Business orrelated fields.
Experience: Twoyears of experience in theproperty and casualty industry as aninvestigator adjuster underwriter or agent.
Note:
1. Four yearsofexperience in the property and casualty insurance industry as an investigatoradjuster underwriter or agent may be substituted for the educationrequirement.
2. A minimum of three (3)years experience working within the Maryland Insurance Administration oranother states insurance regulatory agency in a property and casualtycapacity as an investigator examiner enforcement officer customer servicerepresentative or administrative support capacity may be substituted for theeducation requirement.
3. Possession of J.D. degreeandone (1) yearexperience in the property and casualty industry as an investigator adjusterunderwriter or agent may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
Commercial underwriting andrating experience and/or property claim adjusting experience is preferred.
Working knowledge of insurancelaws including the Annotated Code of Maryland Insurance Article and the Codeof Maryland Regulations (COMAR).
English to Spanish Spanish toEnglish oral and written communications skills is preferred.
Excellent customer servicecommunication (written and verbal) and organizational skills a must.
