Under supervision of the Director Facilities Management Support Services this position is responsible for the management of supervisor(s) staff and temporary labor to manage work requests contracts for both Waste Management & Recycling and Academic Custodial services. This position will ensure that campus facilities are safe efficient and sustains the physical environment of the university via management of FM staff and maintaining open communications within the LMU community to achieve objectives of the department.
Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities
1. Manage Academic Custodial and Waste Management Supervisors to ensure proper staffing levels scheduling and quality of service. Work with Student Worker Program leadership on training and scheduling of student worker staff each year.
2. Actively lead enforce and participate in workplace safety including but not limited to safe working conditions proper use of tools and equipment and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow and support all regulatory university and departmental safety guidelines.
3. Inspect work of staff report plan assign direct evaluate and supervise all preventative and reactionary waste/recycle & custodial services activities.
4. Utilize the departments Work Order Management System (WebTMA) to create distribute and track work orders for completion quality and customer satisfaction.
5. Schedule labor to provide staffing coverage required for events including but not limited to athletics programming summer conferences academic and administrative functions. Assign and manage overtime as necessary; track associated costs to analyze trending for budgeting purposes.
6. Interview select train motivate educate and evaluate performance of staff. Guide inform and develop team members by conducting daily and recurring meetings.
7. Review and approve monthly billing invoices from contracted solid waste & disposal services. Confirm all tare tickets from transport activity and maintain operations log of waste material. Present log to California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) upon request.
8. Keep records and statistics on volumes/tonage/contents of materials leaving the university. Provide regulatory information to the City of Los Angeles Sanitation Bureau and CalRecycle.
9. Work with the LMU community including the university food provider to ensure compliance of state mandated organic waste collection. Work with Grounds Supervisors to confirm compost meets standards needed for the campus.
10. Represent LMU and its community and at professional associations serve on committees as required.
11. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications
Typically a Bachelors Degree Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge skills and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
Cal Recycle Certified Operator certification highly desired.
Five of supervisory experience in custodial and waste management or a combination thereof.
Demonstrated knowledge in the area of basic leadership and managerial skills to direct a skilled labor work team.
Experience in waste management building maintenance project oversight general understanding of all building trades building code fire codes Environmental Protection Agency and OSHA health & Safety regulations.
Ability to read and interpret building & equipment plans diagrams architectural blueprints and specifications preferred.
Must be proficient with a computer and able to effectively navigate using Outlook Word and Excel; working knowledge of computerized work order system and/or record keeping systems highly desirable.
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) understand and follow oral and written directions and effectively express ideas suggestions and recommendations both orally and in writing.
Proven ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities at one time and exceptional organizational skills in a facility that is fully occupied 24 hours a day.
Must be able to respond to campus issues 24/7. Shift may include weekends and evenings.
Ability to attend management training classes workshops certifications and seminars.
Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) preferred.
