QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent credentials required an associates degree preferred.
- A minimum of one years administrative work experience preferred.
- Proficiency in English is required with a proficiency in Spanish preferred.
- Specialized training or skills in recreational activities or two years of experience in the community group work or teaching environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business is required.
RESPONSABILITIES
- Assist Program Director to meet contracted units of service as required by DFTA.
- Under the supervision of the program director the program specialist will plan coordinate and implement recreational educational and cultural activities.
- Read and understand all DFTA standards that pertain to the senior center especially those responsibilities of a Program specialist (i.e. standards on Ed Rec Health Promotion including health screenings Physical Health and Exercise Technology Arts and Culture Case Assistance and Information and referral).
- Assist with the development of engaging and creative curriculum for older adults.
- Plan organize and conduct group and class activities.
- Organize special programs such as: Birthday parties 4th of July St. Patricks Day Mothers Thanksgiving Valentines Day and other special occasions as required by the Program Director.
- Decorate the center according to seasons holidays special events and other occasions as needed.
- Keep Bulletin Boards Updated Prepare bulletin boards to reflect monthly calendar of activities
- Organize an annual health fair and other workshops.
- Prepare special programs for the celebration of cultural activities such as: Black History month Hispanic heritage as well as other ethnic groups represented in the center.
- Prepare monthly calendar of activities and menus for posting and distribution.
- Maintain accurate activities log.
- Plan and chaperone trip.
- Assist with Outsourcing
- Case Assistance
- Register members and update member files annually.
- Decorate the center according to seasons holidays special events etc.
- Assist in supervision of interns.
- Report all problems to the director.
- Hours included as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to stand walk or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather including inclement weather if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
