POSITION OBJECTIVES: The Lead Driver plays a key role in daily delivery operations by ensuring safe and timely deliveries and serving as a liaison between drivers and supervisors. This position combines operational leadership with handson driving responsibilities promoting safety efficiency and teamwork on the road and at the Warehouse.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Serve as the point of contact for route changes delays and driver support.
- Drive routes as needed to cover absences or assist during peak times.
- Handle lastminute callouts and emergency route coverage.
- Actively assist highvolume routes during peak periods.
- Manage unexpected assignments like late orders hot shots or unique requests (e.g. The Diamond late sales entries etc.).
- Train new drivers on company procedures routes safety policies and equipment.
- Conduct pretrip and posttrip inspections assisting others when necessary.
- Monitor driver performance and report issues to management.
- Ensure compliance with all DOT FMCSA and company regulations.
- Promote a strong safety culture through example and coaching.
- Address customer service issues in the field and escalate as needed.
- Work closely with supervisors to begin development for future supervisory roles including exposure to:
- Account management and auditing
- Routing and route adjustments
- Interview participation
- Coaching/disciplinary processes
MERCHANDISING
- Ensure Delivery Drivers are properly merchandising accounts on each visit of which they are responsible.
- Train Delivery Drivers in best practices on display building and ways to build displays.
- Maintain all product freshness by adhering to BDCs rotation guidelines.
SERVICE
- Ensure professional service is given to all customers.
- Assist accounts as needed with delivery and service needs.
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with all customers.
- Maintain a positive appearance by wearing the approved BDC Delivery uniform and enforce the same with all Delivery Drivers.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Manage the accurate completion of check in and settlement process for all assigned routes each day.
- Approve and deny all PTO requests for employees.
- Manage all employees time punches for payroll.
- Complete all annual review tasks for employees.
- Keep and communicate all disciplinary action notes with the HR Department.
- Work with HR on the timely completion of all annual continuous education assignment and company communication acknowledgments.
DEVELOPMENT
- Ensure proper training of Delivery Driver through inhouse training and work with them in the market.
- Dedicate the proper amount of time and training to all newly assigned drivers in order guarantee they are prepared to do their job successfully and safely.
SAFETY
- Ensure the proper training on the safe operation of BDC delivery vehicles.
- Monitor the performance of drivers for safety concerns/issues.
- Interacts with employees customers and retailers in a safe and productive manner.
- Enforces all Brown Distributing safety polices and report all concern of misconduct.
