Job Description


Internship 1620 hours per week 12 weeks

Reports To: Sr. Director of Development


Who We Are:

YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuitionfree public charter high school with a singular focus on supporting youth aged 1720 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. During our 1year alternative program Youthbuild facilitates a warm loving culture that uses a variety of structures to build community such as a restorativejustice approach to discipline weekly community meetings and schoolwide service projects. Students are empowered to attain their high school diploma and vocational certifications while receiving unconditional support by the staff around them. At YouthBuild we work intentionally to disrupt the cycle of poverty and support our students to achieve postsecondary success (4year college 2year college vocational training program or liveable wage job). The Opportunity:

The Development and Communications Intern will support strategic capacitybuilding initiatives across the Development & Communications team. This role offers handson experience in nonprofit communications event planning and media engagement contributing to YouthBuild Philadelphias mission to provide education job training and leadership development to opportunity youth. The intern will lead or support key projects in the department as outlined by the Sr. Director of Development.

Requirements

What Youll Do:

You will

Communication and Marketing Support:

  • Help write edit and format newsletters press releases social media posts and other communications materials.
  • Contribute to content creation for the organizations website and ensure information is up to date.
  • Support media outreach and maintain press lists.
  • Help design basic graphics flyers and promotional materials using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.

Development Support:

  • Assist with donor database management including data entry updating records and generating reports.
  • Support the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and donor appeals.
  • Help prepare donor acknowledgment letters thankyou notes and stewardship materials.
  • Conduct research on prospective donors foundations and corporate sponsors.
  • Assist in organizing fundraising events including logistics outreach and followup.

General Team Support:

  • Assist with special projects and other tasks as assigned by the development or communications teams.
  • Help ensure brand consistency across all communication channels.
  • Maintain organized files and documentation related to both development and communications work.
