Job Description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: The Senior HVAC Technician (Limited License) shall be responsible for the installation service troubleshooting and repairs including but not limited to chillers air handling units controls package units split systems exhaust fans refrigerators freezers and hot/chilled water pumps. Shall perform tasks ranging from operation of systems to the examination and evaluation of equipment to determine needed repairs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Install refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning compressors motors condensers humidifiers evaporators heaters and other components in accordance with design specifications.
  • Charge refrigeration systems with refrigerant gas tests for leaks.
  • Operate units and adjust for proper cutin and cutout of refrigeration units humidifiers heaters air cleaners and circulating pumps.
  • Maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems by checking performance and determining problems.
  • Repair adjust and/or replace defective elements.
  • Install maintain and repair the electrical and pneumatic systems associated with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment from the safety switch throughout the equipment.
  • Install maintain repair and operate all types of centrifugal and reciprocating refrigeration/airconditioning systems and all types of pneumatic/electromechanical temperature controls.
  • Perform necessary plumbing procedures to ensure operation of systems and equipment.
  • Test pipe or tubing joints or connections for leaks using pressure gauge or soapandwater solution.
  • Join pipes or tubing to equipment and to fuel water or refrigerant source to form complete circuit.
  • Reassemble and test equipment following repairs.
  • Install connect and adjust thermostats humidistats and timers using hand tools.
  • Test electrical currents or components for continuity using electrical test equipment.
  • Layout and connect electrical wiring between controls and equipment according to wiring diagrams using electricians hand tools.
  • Comply with all applicable standards policies and procedures including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
  • Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as an HVAC Mechanic.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Georgia HVAC licenses/certifications.
  • Must have EPA certification per CFR part 82f (Universal preferred) for servicing and recovery of refrigerants.
  • Must have experience in HVAC air handling deionizer water chilled water condenser hot water compressed air electronic gate systems and boilers.
  • Experience and/or certification in one or more predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis infrared ultrasound etc.) is preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints sketches and specifications pertaining to air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
  • Must have knowledge of equipment materials methods practices and tools used in the HVAC Mechanic field.
  • Must have a working knowledge and comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and driving history must meet company standards throughout employment.
  • Must be able to pass a preemployment drug screening and a background check as a condition of employment and to obtain access to federal installations.

This job is performed in a shop setting various buildings and out of doors. This position requires driving and working out of doors in extreme heat/cold and possibly rainy weather. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical stamina and strength in all its forms (endurance temperature/climate stress etc.) is necessary.
