Description

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach is a fulltime position responsible for enabling studentathletes to perform to their physical potential in their sport through the development and management of individual and group weight strength and fitness training programs. This coach will develop programs by evaluating current physical conditioning tailoring strength programs for specific needs and demonstrating proper performance of exercises. The position reports to the Director of Sports Medicine and Performance. To be considered for this position candidates must be certified as a strength and conditioning specialist.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Understand and follow UMAC SLIAC and NCAA rules and regulations including those that pertain to training teams and individuals in season and out.
  • Work outside traditional business hours and weekends
  • Design and implement a comprehensive injury reduction and performance enhancement program (strength development speed development power development movement capacity development etc.) for all team sports.
  • Work closely with head coaches and sports medicine staff to design appropriate programs for teams/individuals and monitor athletic performance.
  • Utilize sports science data within TeamBuildr to monitor athletic performance.
  • Collaborate with sports medicine staff regarding the rehabilitation process and return to play protocol of injured student athletes.
  • Maintain equipment in the Wetterau Center Weight Room and other athletics facilities as necessary.
  • Manage a budget for the Wetterau Center Weight Room and TeamBuildr software
  • Team Zoom/Virtual meetings and coaching with studentathletes during holidays summer breaks and any other extended closures when athletes may be off campus.
  • Supervise weightroom work study students.
  • Supervise oncampus internships for exercise science majors.
  • Maintain NSCA Certification by achieving the required CEUs for each reporting cycle as outlined by the NSCA.
  • Maintain a valid CPR/AED/First Aid certification.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred.

Experience: Three years of demonstrated successful strength and conditioning experience at the high school or college level. Commitment to attend assigned weight room sessions.

Skills:

  • Ability to recruit coach and teach highly talented studentathletes.
  • Ability to adhere to all policies rules and regulations of the College UMAC SLIAC and NCAA.
  • Ability to hire and supervise qualified assistants and student workers.
  • Ability to market and promote.
  • A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fastpaced environment as needed.
  • Ability to attend seminars meetings and other professional development opportunities at or away from the College.
  • Ability to organize work effectively conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to integrate resources policies and information for the determination of procedures solutions and other outcomes.
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Ability to apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students faculty staff and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally by phone in person and in writing.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Ability to represent the department and College in a friendly courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment.
