Primary Purpose of Position:

The State Library is seeking a dedicated and forwardthinkingPrograms Consultant to join our team. The Programs Consultant will work with Library Development to provide an expert center of knowledge skills and resources for North Carolina libraries. Position facilitates and supports effective partnerships by providing leadership fostering collaborative initiatives and making resources available to North Carolina libraries. Develops manages and implements statewide library programs that meet the needs of communities across the state. It supports libraries in planning presenting and evaluating programs and projects.

Promotes and supports excellent library service through outreach and engagement with libraries representing the State Library around the state and at statewide and national meetings conferences and committees. It facilitates and supports effective library partnerships by providing leadership and resources. It also participates in the development of new grant programs refinement of existing programs and grant application support and troubleshooting. The primary audience for this position is public library directors as well as public and academic library staff involved in planning and delivering library programs and services.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides advice to public library directors and staff on programs services and resources.
  • Participates as a library development team member to establish and accomplish division goals and objectives.
  • Provides outreach to assigned libraries via regular contact through phone calls emails and other communication channels; serves as liaison consultant on area of expertise to libraries; provides assistance and advice on matters pertaining to library partnerships and programs; engages with stakeholders to obtain input for planning and developing services.
  • Conducts annual monitoring of statewide programs to ensure compliance with all statutes applicable state policies rules and procedures.
  • Identifies builds and maintains active collaborations and partnerships with libraries and related organizations.
  • Serve as an expert resource in working with internal and external customers; plan and develop longterm strategic partnerships with different levels of library staff
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Communicate information about major and/or complex situations to internal and external audiences; serve as a technical resource in developing responses to external audiences
Position/Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday 8am5pm.
  • Must have a valid drivers license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 10 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Masters degree in library and information science
OR
a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution
AND
three years of professional librarian experience related to the area of assignment;

an equivalent combination of education and experience.
