Desktop Engineer
Location: Chicago IL 60605
THE OPPORTUNITY
Group One Trading is looking to hire a fulltime Desktop Engineer who is passionate about all aspects of user support including monitoring actively engaging endusers troubleshooting and providing a high level of customer service. In this handson frontline support role on our Systems Team we desire a candidate with strong problemsolving customerservice critical thinking and communication skills who can collaborate across functional groups.

Group One Trading LP was founded in San Francisco in 1989 and weve become one of the largest privately held options trading firms in the United States with brilliant people on our team in New York Chicago Philadelphia and San Francisco. We continue to expand our presence on exchanges as the options trading space evolves and grows. Armed with expertise developed through a rigorous training program our traders provide competitive liquidity across a broad range of securities. We manage portfolios of thousands of securities and electronically stream twosided quotes across multiple exchanges. Group One is wholly owned by its founders and employees and all our trading is proprietary placing both the rewards for our success and managerial oversight directly in our teams hands.
THE SKILLSET
A broad multiplatform skill set is what we look for but there will be plenty of learning opportunities no matter how many of these skills you bring in with you. We also encourage applicants with various levels of technical backgrounds to apply. Our ideal Desktop Engineer possesses the following:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a technical role
- Proficient in providing support troubleshooting and configuring system hardware
- Expertise in troubleshooting Windows Desktop and Server Operating Systems including Windows 10 11 Windows Serverand 2022
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Active Directory/AAD/Entra Azure DHCP DNS Exchange Online and deployment of Windows Updates
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server & SQL Database Management
- Experience working with a VMware vSphere environment
- Demonstrated proactive problemsolving and critical thinking skills
- Understanding of fundamental networking concepts including TCP/IP FTP and routing
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and crouch beneath desks for equipment installation
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with crossfunctional teams
Experience with scripting/programming languages and tools like Python C# or PowerShell would be a plus! WHAT TO EXPECT AS A DESKTOP ENGINEER
Within 1 month you complete your initial orientation as well as become familiar with our environment our infrastructure and our business. You begin a comprehensive crossfunctional training plan to learn more about every aspect of our firm.
Within 3 months you will be proficient in system monitoring proactively identifying potential issues in the proprietary trading system and responding effectively to incidents. You will begin to gain confidence in performing software maintenance tasks troubleshooting basic networking issues and providing user computer setup support. Additionally your collaborative skills and proactive problemsolving approach will be evident as you actively engage with teams contribute to documentation efforts and propose improvements to enhance system stability and performance.
Within 6 months you will have gained proficiency in troubleshooting complex issues and can provide timely and effective support to all users. Additionally you will begin to take on a leadership role in collaborative efforts contributing significantly to proposing system enhancements and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
This is a hybrid role that requires a significant inoffice presence to work directly with our technology team & trading staff inperson.
