Actively monitor passengers at all times to ensure safety regulations and student code of conduct rules are followed by stationing self on the bus with clear observation to passengers at all times.
Maintain the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with fellow employees supervisors and school staff while maintaining a disciplined decorum of the bus conducive to the safety and protection of the students being transported.
Responsible for securing wheelchairs on the bus; secure safety straps to the frame of the wheelchair and secure the seat belt/harness.
Assists with the loading and unloading of students on/off the bus in a safe manner; provides special assistance to students in wheelchairs.
Ensure students are seated using seat belts at all times; model safety behavior by ensuring that as a bus monitor a seat belt is worn at all times while on a route.
Exercise student management by maintaining order and proper discipline of passengers; resolving disputes documenting and reporting severe disciplinary cases to supervisor as per Dallas ISD Student Code of Conduct.
Complete Student Attendance Forms (SHARS) accurately and legibly and submit to the appropriate employee/department in a timely manner.
Become familiar with assigned routes to be of assistance to drivers with directions.
Provides assistance during emergency situations evacuation planning and drills.
Physically assists passengers in case of emergency; provides knowledge and operates emergency window and backdoor exits.
Ensure that passengers take their belongings with them when leaving the bus.
Assist Driver in keeping the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable by sweeping and removing all trash items from the bus interior
Report to duty on time in Department issued uniform and perform all responsibilities in a safe manner.
Attend all assigned training safety meetings and inservice meetings. Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in techniques and procedures.
Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency) preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to meet the physical and mental requirements of the job meet.
Ability to safely operate appropriate safety and adaptive equipment.
Knowledge and understanding of the proper use of child restraint systems used for transporting students with special needs.
Must have a high degree of attention to detail and considerable dexterity to safely use various types of restraints secure wheelchairs etc.
Ability to lift and assist students during emergency situations.
Required to limit personal distractions while on route and must keep cell phone and/or other personal electronic devices securely stowed away.
Learn and adapt to each students special medical physical communicative and emotional needs.
Required to have prompt regular attendance for both AM & PM shift.
Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and inservice meetings in order to remain qualified.
Ability to assist students with patience and understanding.
Ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions quickly and accurately.
Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills with students and adults.
Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Ability to stay calm and in control during emergency situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all patrons that support the goals of Dallas ISD.
