The Pediatric Center of Frederick has been serving the families of Frederick County MD and the surrounding areas since 1957. The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing evidencebased comprehensive breastfeeding education counseling and support services for mothers babies and families. This position is responsible for providing guidance and support to healthcare providers new parents and families in the promotion of breastfeeding as well as the implementation of breastfeedingfriendly practices. Lactation Consultant Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide individual support services including followup phone and email support
- Assess and document maternal and infant health and breastfeeding goals
- Provide breastfeeding education and counseling to healthcare providers families and the community
- Identify and refer clients to appropriate community resources
- Develop and maintain breastfeeding practices
Lactation Consultant Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in nursing health education or related field
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) certification
- Three to five years of clinical experience in lactation or breastfeeding consulting
- Knowledge of current breastfeeding research and evidencebased practice
- Excellent teaching communication and counseling skills
- Excellent organizational time management and problemsolving skills
- Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Proficient in the use of computers and related software applications
