The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join the Maintenance Crew in Colfax WA. TheHighway Maintenance Worker 3will need to be able to hit the ground running and lead an experienced team of maintenance professionals responsible for performing a variety of highway roadside infrastructure and rightofway maintenance work along state routes and surrounding areas. This experienced technician will lead by example and display a strong ability to work under pressure in demanding conditions and maintain a safe and clean work environment. In this role you must be dedicated to safety while coordinating and performing daily work activities which include heavy equipment operations providing roadway maintenance for subsections of highways and performing snow and ice removal functions.
What to Expect
Weekends and holidays may be required to respond to nonscheduled callout emergencies. Work alternate and emergency shifts as situations dictate. Respond to emergency situations in all weather conditions; 24 hours a day 7 days a week alone or a part of a team as needed. Occasional standby and callback may be required. Rotational night shift is required.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role you will:
- Prioritize plan schedule and budget maintenance activities.
- Serve as the crew lead of a maintenance team performing such work as inspecting cleaning and maintaining culverts catch basins and ditches; asphalt repairs of roadways; repairing guardrail and roadway surfaces; blading shoulders and removing debris; plowing snow and sanding/deicing roads; and cutting brush.
- Patrol and inspect assigned highway and right of ways documenting deficiencies of the roadway.
- Prioritize and schedule personnel and equipment.
- Document daily work and complete status reports.
- Lead crew during winter snow and ice operations.
- Complete thirdparty damage reports and prepare cost estimates.
- Train others in equipment usage safety highway maintenance and public relations.
- Act as traffic control lead on emergency operations and assists crews in setting up and performing traffic control during emergency operations; act as a first responder at accident scenes spills or other emergency situations.
- Utilize personal computer tablet or iPad to maintain accurate records and reports for personnel equipment inventory and materials.
- Be subject to contingency scheduling overtime on short notice and emergency callouts and standby.
- Steward safety programs by knowing and enforcing the established WSDOT/WAC safety policies and procedures; conduct safety meetings.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity the following are required:
- Two 2 years of experience as a Maintenance Technician 2 Bridge Maintenance Technician 2 Maintenance Specialist 3 or equivalent combination of experience.
- Possession of a valid Traffic Control/Flagging card.
- Possession of a Class A CDL with N endorsement without airbrake restrictions.
- Experience in communicating to multiple audiences both orally and in writing.
- Experience providing outstanding customer service.
- Experience adhering to safety policies and diligence in performing work in a safe manner.
- Experience in working independently and prioritizing workload with the ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Ability to report in service to assigned duty station within 45 minutes of an afterhours call.
- Ability to work nights weekends holidays and perform emergency callouts/standby.
- Ability to negotiate rough steep terrain and work in all weather conditions.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three 3 years of experience in one of the following job classes: Highway Maintenance Worker 2 Bridge Maintenance Technician 2 or Maintenance Specialist 2.
- Knowledge of the surrounding area.
- Experience performing traffic control per MUTCD including planning setting signs and cones or barrels and flagging.
- Experience leading and/or supervising crews providing clear direction and making good decisions in stressful conditions.
