The Director of Accessibility Services provides oversight of the Universitys Office of Accessibility Services. They are responsible for determining and providing reasonable accommodations through a clear and thorough knowledge of the Universitys legal responsibilities to ensure compliance under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) and the Fair Housing Act.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the management and implementation of accommodations for all campuses including Capital University Law School and the Bexley Campus.
- Gather review evaluate and interpret documentation for purposes of determining appropriate reasonable accommodations.
- Conduct intake meetings as part of the interactive process.
- Manage the coordination of academic and nonacademic accommodations including testing alternative academic material formats and texts notetaking ASL interpreting captioning assistive technology housing (including emotional support animals) and dining modifications.
- Meet with students as needed to discuss current accommodations assess the need for reevaluation foster student selfadvocacy and promote effective communication with instructors/staff throughout a students academic enrollment.
- Meet with prospective students and family members to consult and discuss the accommodation process.
- Advocate on behalf of students and collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure proper facilitation of accommodations.
- Promote a positive studentcentered successoriented atmosphere for students with disabilities.
- Promote and support inclusive activities and policies in response to federal mandates of nondiscrimination.
- Provide consultation and training to faculty staff and students regarding the rights and responsibilities of all University community members and guests with disabilities or accommodations in a higher education setting.
- Develop and maintain accessibility program materials software systems policies websites and other technology.
- Maintain a working knowledge of best practices and legislation in the field.
- Supervision of a Graduate Assistant Administrative Assistant student assistants or other approved personnel.
- Responsible for recordkeeping confidentiality and reporting on universitywide statistics and sustain partnerships with key constituents at the University to continue to increase the overall accessibility of physical spaces technologies universal design and curriculum.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in education/special education higher education administration college student personnel counseling social work psychology or related field required.
- Minimum of three years professional experience providing direct service to individuals with a wide range of needs related to disabilities or accommodations.
- Preference for individuals with experience within a postsecondary institution is required.
- Demonstrated effectiveness and experience supervising instructing and reviewing work of others.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret Federal Regulation 504 the ADA and various assessments and diagnostic tools.
- Ability to read analyze and interpret legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to write reports and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to University constituencies.
- Prior experience in Accommodate Maxient Microsoft Word Excel Access PowerPoint Outlook Publisher Ellucian Colleague and Social Media Sites (Facebook/Twitter).
- Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to facilitate discussion groups and workshops; ability to coordinate events; ability to update and maintain social media presence and organizational listservs.
