Job Description

My client is a 100% Indigenousowned consultancy offering archaeological environmental forestry and safety services across western Canada. Rooted in values of land stewardship sustainability and community empowerment they are committed to meaningful work that balances development with cultural heritage protection.

They are growing their archaeology team and are seeking a Permitting Archaeologist who is ready to lead both in the field and from the office shaping project success mentoring junior staff and advancing the departments capacity. Remote / WFH / Hybrid:Hybrid or inoffice

Travel: Minimal officebased role

Salary: $80k $100k plus health benefits RRSP matching annual bonuses (The final salary will reflect the qualifications relevant experience expertise and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hold and manage archaeological permits relevant to the region supporting regulatory compliance and client needs.
  • Deliver highquality field assessments reports and cultural resource management strategies.
  • Build operational capacity by mentoring field staff and supporting the development of future field directors.
  • Improve departmental efficiency through better structure delegation and field coverage planning.
  • Collaborate with First Nations representatives and clients to ensure respectful and effective project outcomes.
  • Strengthen internal processes for permitting data management reporting and field operations.
  • Contribute to expanding the archaeology departments reach and reputation within the region.

Responsibilities:

Field Leadership:
  • Organize and oversee archaeological field programs (impact assessments reconnaissance site alterations).
  • Mentor supervisors field directors and technicians; guide field methodology safety and documentation.
  • Liaise with First Nation representatives and ensure culturally appropriate practices in the field.
  • Ensure field equipment vehicles and data are managed according to company safety and documentation standards.
  • Support and model high safety standards working closely with the Health & Safety Manager.
Project Management:
  • Lead the development and submission of permit applications reports proposals and site forms.
  • Conduct artifact and data analysis; support accurate cataloguing and data uploads.
  • Monitor project budgets timelines staffing and quality assurance targets.
  • Assign and review work for junior team members; oversee Letters of Notice and report submissions.
  • Identify project risks and implement corrective actions to ensure performance and client satisfaction.
  • Support RFP responses and new business development with technical expertise and resource planning.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager on team growth project reviews and mentorship programs.
What You Bring:
  • Qualified to hold permits with the BC Archaeology Branch for the East Kootenay region.
  • Strong working knowledge of HCA permitting site recording and BC archaeological standards.
  • Proven ability to lead field crews and manage complex projects from initiation through to reporting.
  • Experience coordinating with First Nations clients and regulators in a professional respectful manner.
  • Strong technical writing field analysis and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable wearing many hats fieldwork mentorship reporting budgeting and client communication.
  • A collaborative mindset with a passion for mentoring and growing junior staff.
