Job Description

65% Residential Case Management and Administration
  • Meet with students to assess concern and wellbeing and develop action plans to empower students to address current and ongoing needs.
  • To ensure continuity of care coordinate referrals to internal units such as Student Access Center Counseling and Psychological Services Watkins Health Services Student Housing Student Conduct and Community Standards etc.
  • Coordinate student transitions from KU services to external community providers (e.g. psychiatric/psychological treatment services alcohol and drug treatment services etc.)
  • Assist in student academic planning through collaborative relationships with Student Access Center Undergraduate Advising Center and/or academic units. This could include assisting with student planning for missed academic work adjusting an academic course load helping with decisionmaking related to withdrawal incompletes and successful return.
  • Maintain a system of follow up for students who have been referred to campus or community resources including providing services to encourage compliance with recommendations and care plans.
  • Maintain accurate case management records in Maxient.
  • Assist with absence notifications to Faculty for students needing to be away from campus for three or more classes due to illness hospitalization family emergency if the student is unable to notify faculty on their own.
  • Attends weekly KU Student Housing staff meetings to coordinate support efforts for both individuals and community members.
  • Attend Student Support and Case Management Staff meetings.
25% Training Staff Support & Outreach
  • Teaches trains provides resources guides staff and students in the development and implementation of training programs for behavioral health and wellbeing areas including outreach directed toward encouraging appropriate positive student behavior.
  • Attends and facilitates staff meetings to provide aftercare support to Housing staffs student leadership boards and other impacted students following crisis and critical incidents.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with staff members from both internal KU and external community agencies in order to support residential students.
  • As needed supervise a Masters level practicum student from the School of Social Welfare providing support and direction for daily operation supporting residential students.
5% Outreach
  • Serve on Universitywide and Student Affairs committees and task forces as needed.
5% Other duties as assigned.
  • Available to work nights and weekends as needed.

  2. Experience with suicide prevention and interventional work sexual assault survivor support work crime victim advocacy food insecurity and/or homelessnessas evidenced by application materials
  3. Familiarity with referral processes and typical campus resources
  4. Working knowledge of college developmental and mental health issues including dual diagnosesas evidenced by application materials
  5. Experience assisting people in unbiased reflection on behavior decisionmaking and community membership as evidenced by application materials


Position Overview
The Residential Student Support Case Manager is a position within Student Support and Case Management (SSCM) a department within Student Affairs who provides nonclinical case management services to students living in oncampus housing where their academic and community success is being impacted by behavioral health and wellbeing needs. This position will also provide support and training to KU Student Housing staff and support general wellbeing efforts within KU Student Housing.

The Case Manager works with complex student situations that have impacted the students ability to successfully function in the University community or when the student has been disruptive to the community and requires significant behavioral changes to remain in or return to the University. This position is highly collaborative and plays an active role in nonclinical student case management developing and implementing both long and shortterm response plans. Examples of concerns include but are not limited to transition physical and mental health student safety personal crisis basic needs insecurity and integration into campus life.

The Case Manager does not provide therapy; rather the Case Manager will help facilitate a students access to and appropriate utilization of University and/or community services while coaching students toward appropriate selfcare selfmanagement autonomy and selfadvocacy. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Support and Case Management and works collaboratively as a member of the KU Student Housing team along with other on and offcampus colleagues and partners.
