Position: Court Clerk
Department: Municipal Court
Reports To: Court Administrator
FLSA Status: NonExempt
Pay: $14.33 per hour
DESCRIPTION
The Deputy Court Clerk provides both administrative and clerical support and customer service to the Municipal Court operations. This position involves assisting with case processing courtroom support customer service and record management tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the court. With a focus on accuracy professionalism and attention to detail the Deputy Court Clerk plays an integral part in facilitating the fair and effective administration of justice within the community.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED is required. Additional coursework in criminal justice legal studies or related fields is preferred.
Previous experience in a clerical or administrative role preferably in a court or legal setting is desirable but not required.
Valid Texas Drivers License at the time of hire is required.
Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus but not required.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of and proficiency in basic computer applications including word processing spreadsheet software and database management. Experience with court management software is a plus.
Skills in strong verbal and written communication with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals in a professional manner.
Skills in meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in performing clerical tasks data entry and recordkeeping.
Skills in strong organization and time management with the ability to prioritize tasks meet deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
Ability to maintain a customerfocused mindset with a commitment to providing courteous and helpful assistance to court users and the public.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
MAJOR DUTIES
Provides customer service by answering phone calls emails and inperson questions; schedules court dates processes payments verifies documentation and files court records.
Assist in processing court cases including filing legal documents entering case information into the court database and maintaining accurate records.
Provide support during court proceedings by preparing courtrooms managing dockets administering oaths and assisting judges and attorneys as needed.
Interact with court users attorneys law enforcement personnel and the general public providing information assistance and guidance in person by phone and via email.
Collect fines fees and other payments issue receipts and reconcile cash transactions in accordance with established procedures.
Perform data entry tasks to update case information generate reports and compile statistical data as required by court management and regulatory agencies.
Prepare legal documents notices subpoenas and other courtrelated correspondence under the direction of the Court Clerk or other supervisory personnel.
Maintain organized and accurate court records including case files exhibits and other documents ensuring compliance with recordkeeping requirements.
Assist in the processing of warrants including issuing warrants updating warrant records and coordinating with law enforcement agencies for warrant execution.
Assist in maintaining courtroom security and orderliness including screening visitors enforcing courtroom rules and assisting with the management of courtroom logistics.
Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills related to court procedures legal terminology and customer service.
Other duties as assigned.
