Landbased Learning Coordinator

Major Responsibilities include:
Instructional Leadership:
- Collaborate with principals to implement and sustain Indigenous landbased learning practices that honour cultural perspectives.
- Work with local Elders to develop a culturally inclusive learning environment within schools and the division.
- Partner with the Director of First Nations Mtis and Inuit Education to create environments that promote knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous cultures histories and perspectives.
- Support the development of educational strategies that align with the Leadership Quality Standard enhancing learning opportunities for all students.
Student Achievement:
- Assist teachers in integrating landbased learning resources and cultural learning opportunities that reflect First Nations Mtis and Inuit perspectives.
- Support the development of educational programs that connect students with their cultural identities and local community traditions.
- Provide feedback and coteaching support to enhance the integration of a cultural lens in teaching practices.
Resource Management:
- Manage and distribute educational materials and resources related to Indigenous landbased learning.
- Organize and lead committee meetings that focus on curriculum and instructional reviews related to landbased learning.
Leading Learning Communities:
- Coordinate and deliver professional development opportunities focused on Indigenous education and landbased learning.
- Represent the division in professional organizations and initiatives that focus on Indigenous educational practices.
General Responsibilities:
- Adhere to divisional policies and procedures while performing role responsibilities.
- Analyze data and prepare reports to inform division strategies and initiatives related to Indigenous landbased learning.
- Travel to schools working with teachers to build their skill set to infuse landbased learning into the curriculum. Division will provide a vehicle.
Qualifications and Requirements include: - Must hold or qualify for Alberta teaching certification and a Leadership Quality Standard certificate.
- Must hold a Masters degree or willingness to complete a Masters degree within a mutually agreed upon timeline.
- Has a minimum of 5 successful years of teaching experience in rural and/or Indigenous communities.
- Must have substantial knowledge of Indigenous traditions ways of being and ceremony.
