Job Description Summary
Are you a detailoriented Protection Engineer with a passion for precision and system reliability GE Vernova Grid Automation is seeking a motivated engineer to join our protection and control engineering team focusing on settings and calculations for protection systems across substation and grid automation projects.
This role is crucial in ensuring the safe and optimal performance of HV and MV electrical networks through accurate coordination settings definition and validation.
Youll play a key role in supporting project execution and working closely with the protection team during engineering testing and commissioning phases.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Protection Settings & Coordination: Perform detailed protection settings calculations (e.g. distance differential overcurrent earth fault) and ensure coordination across devices and system levels.
- Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain settings files protection study reports and engineering documentation in compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
- System Study Interpretation: Analyse short circuit load flow and arc flash study results to determine appropriate protection thresholds and coordination requirements.
- Customer and Project Management: Participate in project risk reviews manage project budgets in term of mandays allocated to the setting tasks and provide regular progress updates.
- Project Support: Collaborate with system study engineers design teams and project managers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of protection settings. Support customer interactions as needed.
- Standardisation & Quality: Contribute to the development of standard templates calculation tools and design best practices to improve quality and consistency across projects.
Essential Qualifications:
- Educational Background: BSc. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience: Over five years of experience in protection engineering with a strong emphasis on protection settings calculations and coordination studies.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in protection principles and relay configuration; experience with protection study software such as ETAP.
- Design Expertise: Capable of designing protection schemes and performing network studies.
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with international standards and national grid policies.
- Documentation & Communication: Strong ability to create technical documentation and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Desired Characteristics
- Indepth knowledge of protection and automation systems including relay design for LV MV and HV applications.
- Experience with GE protection relays and Grid Automation solutions.
- Significant analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fastpaced projectdriven environment.
- Excellent interpersonal problemsolving and organisational skills.
- Advanced verbal and written communication abilities with the capacity to work effectively across departments.
