Job Description

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

These Mental Health Specialist II (MHS2 work in our Acute Behavioral Services (ABS) programs. ABS sites are highly specialized programs in which we serve individuals with intensive interfering behavioral and mental health needs.  The persons receiving these services have many of the following characteristics: previously placed in a highly restricted facility high incidence of crisis situations high behaviors or antisocial issues multiple hospitalizations/commitments/ institutional stays history of law enforcement involvement due to behaviors and multiple failed placements. These group homes have been significantly modified to eliminate safety concerns. Consistency and routine are key factors in the proven success of these programs.  Because of the complex/high level behaviors MHS2s are provided training for manual restraints and will experience mental emotional and physical manipulation from the person we support. Staff may be exposed to severe verbal aggression that may include disparaging remarks racial slurs and swearing.  ABS programs utilize a personcentered approach to creating a program that focuses on supporting a person to reach their goals while still considering the safety of the individual staff and the community. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

These are caregiver positions with an emphasis on mental health and behavior management support. Past experience in direct support professional roles as well as behavior technician would be similar in responsibilities.

  • Provide HandsOn Care: Assist individuals with daily activities like personal care meal prep and transportation all while fostering independence.
  • Support Mental Health & Behavioral Management: Utilize your skills to help individuals overcome behavioral challenges offering compassionate personcentered care.
  • Create a Safe & Welcoming Environment: Maintain a clean safe space that ensures comfort and support while helping individuals reach their personal goals.
  • Mentor & Guide: Provide supervision positive reinforcement and guidance to help individuals achieve their aspirations.

Qualifications :

What You Bring to the Table:

  • At least 3 years of experience working with individuals who have challenging behaviors such as physical or verbal aggression property destruction or selfinjury in a caregiving / direct support or relatable role
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and 21 years or older for some sites
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Passion for Helping Others: Experience with mental health conditions (e.g. bipolar disorder schizophrenia depression anxiety) or individuals with disabilities 
  • Physical stamina to stay on your feet walk stand and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
  • Basic computer skills for tracking progress and documentation.

Hours Worked
    May be fulltime or parttime with a mixture of weekday and weekend hours. The specific number and times of scheduled hours should be set upon hiring.  All persons in this position should be prepared to work weekends and holidays.
