Job Description:
Accountabilities:
Program
- Maintain food bank stock cleanliness tidiness and organization of food bank area and assist as needed with food drives.
- Assist in organizing food supplies and restocking pantry items etc.
- Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect while adhering to The Salvation Army Code of Ethics for Social Services.
- Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution.
- Check phone messages and respond as appropriate
- Record statistical data in a clear organized and accurate manner.
- Immediately report any conflicts or issues with clients to the supervisor
Health and Safety
- Assist in ensuring client and volunteer safety by maintaining cleanliness and adherence to all health and safety standards.
- Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained regarding organization appearance maintenance and general cleanliness and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
- Ensure all donated food is safe to consume following Food Banks Canada guidelines
- Work in compliance with the OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
- Immediately report to management any Health & Safety concerns
- Perform other positionrelated duties.
Critical Relationship Management:
- Internal relationships:
- Corps Officer CS Coordinator CS Associate volunteers and other church staff
- External relationships:
- Community partners agencies and clients
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:
- This position reports directly to CS staff
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Assist with food bank materials management such as donations/product flow and distribution of same.
- All donated items are for distribution to clients only unless otherwise stipulated by management
Working Conditions:
- This is a temporary fulltime position based on 30 hours per week.
- Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 30 pounds.
- This job requires reaching bending and stooping frequently working in a standing position for long periods of time.
Normal hours of work Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 3:00 pm with a hour unpaid meal break but may vary as required.
The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Armys Mission Statement in a professional manner exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
- Requires completion of a Secondary School Diploma plus relevant additional courses.
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
- Is a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*: and
- Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations. *International students are not eligible.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Prior experience working or volunteering in a Customer Service role
- Prior related experience including working with multibarriered persons.

- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a recent Background Check.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Ability and willingness to provide a valid Safe Food Handlers Certification.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.61 to $22.01 with a maximum of $26.41.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
