Job Description

School Physician 2025/2026

Position

School Physician

Qualifications:

Licensed Medical Doctor in Massachusetts

Description:

Based on the Massachusetts Department of Public Healths School Health Manual

Scope of Responsibilities:

The school physician contracts with the Burlington School Department to provide medical expertise and consultation in the development and implementation of the comprehensive school health program. The school nurses may request a consultation on individual students with specific health issues at any time. The school physician acts as a resource and predominantly works closely with the Nurse Leader.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (M.G.L. c. 71 s. 53
  • Be board certified or board eligible in pediatrics

Responsibilities:

  • Provide general consultation to the school nurses and to the Burlington School Department on matters relating to the health and safety of the student population.
  • Collaborate with the school nurses and Nurse Leader in identifying the need for and developing policies and procedures governing school health services for individuals or groups of students.
  • Communicate with the childs primary care provider on medical issues pertinent to the school setting when indicated or requested by the school nurses.
  • Interpret the needs and responsibilities of the school health program to the school committee the community and other health care providers within the community in collaboration with the school nurses.
  • Cooperate with other medical and public health professionals in prevention programs designed to enhance the health of children and adolescents within the community.

Terms of Employment:

Compensation:

$5000
