Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The Family Services Worker assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from or have been referred to the salvation army. This position provides support to the food bank program and other programs provided by the community & family services.
Accountabilities:
Food Bank
- Facilitate the daily operation of the food bank (distribution of food incoming donations of food general cleanliness etc..
- Support individuals/families accessing food bank to meet their wants/needs of food (assisting with points and shopping experience).
- Process incoming food donations.
- Daily cleaning of food bank and preparation for following day.
- Organize and maintain general operation of storage space (sorting food checking dates stocking shelves).
- Assist and support Food Drives and other fundraising events.
- Inputting data into Link2Feed and other statistical reporting.
- Ensure all clients are treated with dignity and respect and maintain all information in confidence.
- Prepare food and supplies for the mobile food pantry.
- Pack food bags for deliveries.
Program Support
- Assist with set up/clean up of Family Care Centre programs.
- Assist with and implement activities for the Summer Day Camp.
- Supervise kids on the bus to and from Adventure Camp.
Reporting
- Create and maintain list of reports required for health and safety compliance purposes.
- Support external reporting requests as needed.
Perform other related duties as required.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reports to Director Family Care Centre
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Assist with the receiving and documenting of donated goods.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary fulltime position based on 35 hours per week.
- Typical work hours will be 8:30 am 4 pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
- Your supervisor will set the work schedule. Flexibility in scheduling is required.
- The typical working location for this position is at the Kitchener Community Church and Family Care Centre which includes the Food Bank Storage area offices and outdoor space.
- May include a mobile distribution location in Kitchener or Waterloo and a school bus to and from Adventure Camp (Jacksons Point Ontario)
- Ability to lift/move more than 25 lbs. and this job requires reaching bending and stooping frequently; working in a standing position for long periods of time.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS CERTIFICATIONS SKILLS:
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has
- been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and
- holds a valid Social Insurance Number;and
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- *International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen permanent resident orperson who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legallyremain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.
Experience and Knowledge Requirements:
- Safe Food Handling Certificate is an asset.
- Knowledge of communitybased resources is an asset.

- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.61 to $22.01 with a maximum of $26.41.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
