GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a fulltime Heavy Equipment Mechanic based in Thermopolis Wyoming. This is an entrylevel position with exciting career advancement opportunities through WYDOTs career ladder program. Under direct supervision you will perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks on heavyduty vehicles including diesel and gasoline engine overhauls tuneups brake and steering repairs transmission work and hydraulic system maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.


  • Conducts a wide variety of preventive maintenance and/or repairs on various diesel and automotive equipment along with other selfpropelled or towed equipment.
  • Performs safety inspections on all types of automotive and diesel equipment.
  • Reads and interprets technical manuals to diagnose and correct problems with vehicles and equipment.
  • Rigs and fabricates new equipment to district standards.
  • Creates repair orders.
  • Responsible for the inventory of the shop equipment and supplies.
  • Designs and fabricates parts for tractors mowers and machinery for specialized applications.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Preference will be given to applicants who have completed any equipment certification exams.

**Welder Certification card for FH&VFilletand FH&V Grove 3/4 welds is a plus.
**Agency requires the successful applicant to obtain and maintain a Commercial Drivers License
**Must pass a series of seven fundamental tests including Electricity Engines Hydraulics Power Trains Administrative Procedures Rigging and General Shop.


KNOWLEDGE:



Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
24 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics)
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL

OR

Education:
Associates Degree

Experience:
02 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics)

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Ability to obtain a CDL
