Position Overview
Coffman Engineers is seeking an experienced highly motivated Civil Engineering Department Manager to lead the civil engineering practice in our Downtown Los Angeles office.
This is a leadership opportunity where youll manage projects mentor staff drive business development and shape the strategic growth of our team. The ideal candidate is a licensed Civil Engineer with a strong background in land development public utilities and project management combined with a passion for leadership and client success.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mentor and develop a highperforming team of engineers designers and technical staff.
Manage department operations staffing and performance evaluations.
Oversee project to ensure quality schedule and budget goals are met.
Provide technical leadership across civil engineering disciplines including site layouts grading drainage utilities stormwater management and lowimpact design.
Serve as a technical expert on design standards permitting and regulatory compliance.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships; identify and pursue business development opportunities.
Lead proposals scope development contract negotiations and project budgeting.
Collaborate with internal teams across disciplines and office locations.
Monitor department financial performance resource allocation and project profitability.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in California.
10 years of professional experience (California experience preferred).
Strong project management client management and leadership skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Preferred:
Experience managing multidiscipline design teams.
Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D Revit and Bluebeam.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook Word Excel).
Knowledge of Los Angeles permitting zoning entitlements and public utility projects.
Previous prime consulting and business development experience.
Involvement in local professional organizations.
Experience with energy storage systems is a plus.
What We Offer
Base Salary: $140000 $170000 annually
Overtime: Paid at 1.0x hourly rate
Bonus: Competitive discretionary bonus based on personal team and company performance
