  • Full time fixed term for 12 months

  • Base Salary from $superannuation

About the opportunity

The School of Medical Sciences isrecognisedas one of the leadingcentresfor medical science education in the world. With over 100 years of excellence in education we are proud to be training the next generation of medical scientists who will be leading members of the medical research community with an innovative integrated curriculum. Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines from patient to policy across a range oftherapeuticareas.

The Senior Technical Officer supervises operations and provides expert technical advice and guidance in the laboratory and in the field. They undertake complex experiments and ensure all equipment is in safe sound working order. They may supervise staff and are responsible for ensuring compliance with work health and safety requirements.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide expert technical advice and undertake experiments in collaboration with researchers and other technical staff in the laboratory

  • demonstrate the use of scientific equipment and apparatus

  • analyse qualitative and quantitative tests by recording and computing relevant data following analytical tests and investigative tasks

  • train staff visitors and students in the safe operation of laboratory equipment

  • perform risk assessments and prepare safe work and maintenance procedures for equipment

  • undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

  • relevant postgraduate or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience

  • experience in research methodologies

  • significant experience in a similar role in a laboratory environment

  • significant experience preparing and running experiments

  • strong experience using databases and/or statistical analysis programs

  • ability to communicate effectively.
