**EXPERIENCE CREDIT:A maximum of two 2 years may be granted for experience outside the Beaumont Unified School District. Therefore an external new hires maximum starting salary for this position is $ 34.30 per hour (Range 26/Step 3.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Student Services and oversight by the Site Principal and/or designee. In alignment with the Districts MultiTiered System of Support (MTSS) the Student Support Specialist will function as part of a comprehensive team that provides emotional behavioral and mental health support for students at the school sites. The Student Support Specialist will assist in the implementation and monitoring of appropriate classroom and schoolwide behavioral and socialemotional interventions; the creation and implementation of individual student behavior support plans; and provide direct shortterm intensive behavioral and/or socialemotional intervention support.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with providing support and intervention including using effective verbal deescalation techniques and/or implementing crisis prevention and response procedures as indicated to intervene with students who experience escalated states of dysregulation and/or may be aggressive/ive; E
- Assists with the creation and implementation of individualized behavior support plans including the modeling of behavior management strategies and skillswhich may involve the use of approved positive reinforcement strategies behavior modification and other skills or knowledge to support and promote appropriate and positive behavior in the classroom on the playground and during transitions; E
- Assists in providing student support through modeling and reinforcing behavioral support strategies in accordance with a students behavior/emotional support plan; E
- Monitors supports and documents students behavior; supports the implementation of District and school site behavior intervention programs including but not limited to Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (PBIS) or other District approved behavior modification programs; E
- Assists with facilitating a Check In/Check Out System and associated documentation; E
- Assists with the creation and delivery of Districtapproved curriculum that enhances behavioral and socialemotional functioning in the educational setting to support engagement and student success;
- Assists with the coordination of and participates in Educational Monitoring Team (EMT) Individual Educational Program (IEP) and 504 meetings (including acting as a translator if needed) to communicate information to and from parents guardians or students; E
- Assists with the administration of surveys focus groups and student interviews to help identify needs for additional programs and services;
- Adheres to a standardized crisis risk protocol and refers to administration and additional schoolbased mental health providers (counselors school psychologist licensed therapists) to provide a warm handoff to be seen for crisis intervention services when needed; E
- Assists with the coordination of services for identified students and families to help facilitate access to appropriate mental health health educational and social services resources;
- Works in collaboration with the classroom teacher; work closely with the administration staff counselors/specialists other related service providers and the students families to ensure the optimal development and functioning of each child within the educational environment; E
- Observes and monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. intervention environments classroom campus and other noninstructional times) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment; E
- Participates in District and other recommended training seminars and workshops to learn new strategies for behavioral intervention and remediation to support the overall behavioral and socialemotionalfunctioning of students;
- Works with students both proactively and reactively;
- Performs job assignment safely for the purpose of protecting people and property; E
- High tolerance for ongoing stressful situations; E
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
E Essential Function
JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences Social Work Psychology Human Development Education or related field required;
Experience:
- One 1 year of experience working with atrisk youth (group home/residential care day treatment wraparound programs schoolbased setting transitional programs etc.;
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Licenses Certifications and Testing
- A current and valid CPR/First Aid certification;
- Pass a preemployment physical and drug test;
- A current and valid Tuberculosis (TB) clearance;
- Fingerprint clearance for school personnel;
- Must possess a valid California Drivers License during the course of employment and be insurable by the Districts liability insurance carrier.
Knowledge and skills of:
- Applicable education laws codes regulations policies and procedures;
- Social/emotional development child development principles and practices;
- Unique needs of students with diverse cultural linguistic and emotional and educational backgrounds;
- Characteristics of students identified with autism emotional challenges ADHD or other behavioral/socialemotional needs;
- Standard office equipment and computer applications including Microsoft Office and Google Drive environments with expertise in Excel PowerPoint and Adobe;
- Modern office methods procedures and equipment including recordkeeping principles methods and procedures electronic filing systems archiving for records letter and report writing.
- Knowledge of Universal Precautions regarding bloodborne pathogens;
- Knowledge of their duty and responsibility as mandated reporters.
