Job Description
Ripley High School is seeking a headvolleyball coach. Our coaches are actively engaged in the Ripley community
and embrace the mission and values of Ripley High School and Lauderdale County School district.
The role of the head volleyball coach is to be responsible for coaching character
development and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level
of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline sportsmanship and teamwork through volleyball.
This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student athletes fellow
coaches staff parents and community and well as follow the mission of the school. Positive
communication strategies organizational skills and safety awareness are key requirements.
The Head Volleyball Coach reports to the Principal and Athletic Director.
Key Elements
- Follow and uphold the policies and mission statement of Ripley High School.
- Plan organize and direct the Ripley High School Volleyball program.
- Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
- Ensure that team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of the athletes are clearly communicated and followed.
- Plan organize advertise and conduct tryouts for the volleyball program; inform Athletic Department and participants of final selections. Maintain the integrity of the selection process.
- Consult with the Athletic Director regarding any offseason training programs including scheduling dates for summer camps/practices uniform fitting prepost tryout informational parent meetings.
- Attend informational parent meetings at the beginning of each season for all level.
- Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
- Work directly with school athletic trainer in reporting injuries teaching precautions and procedures to ensure staff/student safety and help students prevent injuries.
- Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards opposing team fans parents officials spectators and community.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors degree
Valid Tennessee teaching license
Applicable endorsement for subject area(s) if required
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area(s) assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of core academic subject(s) assigned
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Student teaching approved internship or related work experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials equipment and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the State Board of Education board policies and administrative procedures.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
Student Growth and Development
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Assist in selecting books equipment and other instructional materials.
- Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.
Communication
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents students colleagues and community members.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve jobrelated skills.
- Comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).
