Job Description

Salary:Currently $49638.36$92138.12 (DOE) prorated based upon FTE still being negotiated for.

Insurance:Generous Health dental and vision contribution from the district currently up to $2202 (based upon family coverage) prorated based upon FTE TBD for.

PERS Retirement:The district assumes and pays the 6 average employee contribution to the Oregon PERS system.

Job Title: High School English Teacher
Location: Klamath Union High School
Reports To: Principal

Job Summary:

The High School English Teacher is responsible for delivering a rigorous and engaging English curriculum that fosters students literary analysis writing and communication skills. The teacher will guide students through various genres of literature and forms of composition while cultivating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. This position involves close collaboration with students parents and colleagues to enhance academic achievement and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

English Instruction:

  • Plan and deliver standardsbased English lessons aligned with state and school curriculum.
  • Teach literature composition grammar and critical thinking across a variety of texts.
  • Guide students in reading and analyzing literary genres including novels poetry drama and nonfiction.
  • Support student development in writing essays creative works and research projects.
  • Facilitate classroom discussions to enhance comprehension interpretation and oral communication skills.

Student Development & Engagement:

  • Foster a positive respectful and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Provide individualized support to promote academic success and literacy development.
  • Encourage participation in Englishrelated extracurricular activities (e.g. writing clubs school publications).
  • Promote critical thinking collaboration and confidence through discussion and projectbased learning.

Collaboration & Administrative Duties:

  • Collaborate with school staff counselors and families to support student success.
  • Assess and track student progress using formative and summative assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to schoolwide initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in English Education or a related field.
  • Valid Oregon state teaching certification/licensure in English (secondary level).
  • Experience teaching English at the high school level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of literature writing instruction and curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication organization and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students in a collaborative academic setting.

Work Environment & Expectations:

  • Work primarily in a classroom setting with occasional participation in schoolwide events.
  • Engage with students parents and the school community to support a strong academic culture.
  • Attend meetings professional development sessions and parentteacher conferences as required.
