Responsible for educating and assisting mothers of Brenner infants in breastfeeding basics and helps resolve problems for breastfeeding mothers who experience difficulties. Educates staff to assist with breastfeeding consultations and maintains breastfeeding resources. Maintains breastfeeding statistics and participates in related outcomes research. Also collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the nutritional care and prevention of complications for pediatric patients related to breastfeeding. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college/university with Bachelors degree in Administration Nutrition or Nursing. Prior experience in a neonatal intensive care or pediatric unit as an IBCLC preferred. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills preferred. LICENSURE CERTIFICATION and/or REGISTRATION: Current IBCLC certification or eligible to sit for exam. If not currently certified must apply to sit for the exam at the next scheduled application date. CPR certification required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provides consultation in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to mothers of patients in the management of breastfeeding to promote optimal patient outcomes. 2. Educates staff and complex breastfeeding management. 3. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team in monitoring breastfeeding progress of mothers and modifying the plan of care to promote optimal outcomes. 4. Maintains breastfeeding statistics for Brenner Childrens Hospital. 5. Develops policies and procedures as needed for Lactation Consultant services breastfeeding equipment and resources and participates in performance and quality improvement activities and outcomes projects.
