This is a parttime position based at our Vancouver BC laboratory. The hourly wage ranges from $25 to $26. The scheduled work hours are Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM and Saturdays from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM.
Receives and prepares samples for laboratory analysis and tests. Prepares samples sets up instruments runs tests and reads interprets and releases results. May perform a variety of client service activities for internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be proficient in at least three clinical areas including Hematology.
Process samples and prepare samples for send out.
Perform all required quality control per QA guidelines.
Train on all areas to include Specimen Processing Chemistry Hematology UA and Coag according to all SOPs.
Oversee the entering and releasing of results.
Responsible for the performance of tests such as Hematology Urinalysis PT PTT CBC Avian CBC Cytology and Manual Differentials.
Read UA slides at a minimum rate of 45 per hour.
Responsible for the performance of tests such as Chemistry Olympus T4Olympus CBCAdvia Progesterone PT PTT Platelet count Reticulocytes and UA.
In 24hour laboratories may also be responsible for the performance of tests such as Serology FCV HWAB Accuplex HW FELV FIVIFA all other IFA testing as required and FIV EIA test results.
In 24hour laboratories may also be responsible for the performance of tests such as Parasitology required fecal testing which may Giardia ELISA setup and testing and other miscellaneous test.
Participate in all departmental training programs.
Reconcile pending list.
May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives special projects and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Associates/Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or MLT Degree in related field with a minimum of 1 year clinical laboratory experience in Hematology
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Laboratory skills and experience
General science background
Attention to detail and ability to work independently
Organized with the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skill
Personal computer skills strong typing ability and knowledge of Microsoft Office
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Extensive sitting phone and computer use
Capable of standing continuously for up to 2 hours
Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers
Occasionally required to bend kneel stoop or crouch
May be required to lift move and carry up to 20 lbs.
Heavy microscopic work
Specific vision abilities required include close vision color vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Hearing ability to effectively communicate via the telephone and in person
Ability to communicate verbally on the phone and in person
Fluency in the English language
Extended hours may be needed
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Laboratory environment with potential biohazards present
Use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards
