Job Description

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The assistant teaching professor title designates completion of terminal degree. This is a oneyear appointment with option for renewal 36 weeks to begin August 5 2025 or as negotiated.

Responsibilities:

Teach up to four courses 12 credits) each semester using traditional hybrid and online delivery methods. This position will teach in support of a baccalaureate Computer Science degree program offered by three Penn State campuses: Penn State Beaver Penn State Brandywine and Penn State Hazleton. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty in this consortium teach traditional residential courses and share a portion of the curriculum to consortium campuses using a variety of distance education methods. Teaching assignments may require teaching day and/or evening as needed.

Successful candidates will be able to instruct diverse courses within the Computer Science baccalaureate program. Experience teaching remotely using a variety of techniques is a plus. Examples of courses include: programming fundamentals data structures objectoriented programming systems programming computer organization and design theory of computation operating systems design programming languages and electives in the instructors area of expertise.

Faculty are expected to engage in activities to stay current in the discipline advise students and provide career guidance participate in campus university and community service activities and participate in course curriculum and program development. Ideal candidates will have interest in engaging students in cocurricular activities such as undergraduate research academic clubs and others.

Qualifications:

Minimum of Masters degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited institution.

Campus Information:

Penn State Hazleton is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses statewide. It is a studentcentered residential campus of approximately 550 students. The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered as well as 13 baccalaureate degrees including a B.S. in Engineering and B.S. in Computer Science and 5 associate degrees.

Students and faculty at Penn State Hazleton have all the resources of a major research university at their disposal but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a highquality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research.
