Department Summary

The Department of Global Studies University of Oregon invites applicants for its open Pro Tem instructor and Pro Tem faculty pool which we establish to have applications on file when openings become available.

Position Summary

The Department of Global Studies invites applications for its open pro tem instructional pool. Teaching will be primarily at the undergraduate level but may involve assignments at the graduate level. The fulltime course load is nine courses per year three per term. Positions are for one year or less with the possibility of renewal for up to three years based on need and performance. Please note the limitations on concurrent faculty employment and student status in the same department: needs would most likely be in lowerdivision courses including large lecture courses. The department often hires an instructor(s) to teach Introduction to International Issues GLBL 101 (survey of major political economic and cultural themes in international studies through inclass debates on key contemporary issues). The Department of Global Studies may have occasional additional needs in courses related to globalization development environment crosscultural communication intercultural competence health and human rights.

Advising students during office hours and participating in assessment as part of teaching duties are expectations of the appointments. Pro Tem faculty are not required but are welcome to participate in departmental service.

Minimum Requirements

Masters Degree in International or Global Studies or a closely related field.
Collegelevel teaching experience.

Professional Competencies

Ability to work effectively with faculty staff and students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in social sciences or a related field.
