Job Description

Why your role matters

The Manager Scholarly Communications Librarian provides highlevel expertise and strategic advice to the University and individual researchers on the changing modes of scholarly publishing and communication in order to increase visibility and impact of UNSWs scholarship and knowledge assets.

Reporting to the Associate Director Scholarly Communication and Repositories and overseeing three direct reports this role provides expert advice on the Librarys scholarly communications services for researchers and HDR candidates as well as supporting the Universitys Open Access Policy. The scholarly communications services are designed to assist researchers to make informed choices and best leverage open access traditional publishing and technological opportunities when publishing their research outputs for maximum impact. The role also provides input on technological solutions that will enhance and support scholarly communication at UNSW.

About You:

  • A degree from a higher education institution with a depth of subsequent relevant experience postgraduate qualifications with relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education training and/or experience.
  • Expert knowledge of the research process and practices and the scholarly communications environment including publisher policies and contracts copyright open access metrics and impact and the use of authoring communication tools in which university researchers and HDR candidates operate.
  • Indepth knowledge of the application of digital repositories research infrastructure referencing applications authoring tools and other technologies applied to facilitating scholarly communication.
  • Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated ability to deliver informative and influential presentations and resources to convey and advocate complex and innovative solutions.
  • Ability to provide Library staff and researchers at all levels with high level and detailed information advice strategies and solutions to the complex contractual and copyright issues and problems prevalent in scholarly communication and publishing environments.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies to ensure the successful implementation and researcher uptake of scholarly communication policies and services which support the research impact of individual researchers and research programs.
  • Demonstrated high level communication interpersonal and negotiation skills with ability to influence and sustain relationships with stakeholders at all levels both internal and external.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading a team in a dynamic matrix working environment.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSWs aims objectives and values in action together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
