    Oak Park and River Forest High School or OPRF is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park Ill. a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a oneschool district with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses a variety of programs for students with special needs 75 clubs and activities and 29 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for postsecondary success with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 94 graduation rate.

    Oak Park and River Forest are communities that highly value diversity. OPRF is a founding member of the national Minority Student Achievement Network and our school is racially and economically diverse with about 44 of our 3300 students identifying as AfricanAmerican Hispanic multiracial or Asian.     Oak Park and River Forest High School is a large diverse public high school. We currently have 3 school social workers within the Special Education Department. The intern who accepts this position will receive one main supervisor and will also have to opportunity to work with the other school social workers to get a wellrounded experience.

    Qualifications:
    • Eligibility for an approved School Counseling Internship through a Masters of Counseling Program
    • Demonstrated knowledge in assessment consultation counseling technology diversity problem solving
    • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students staff and parents
    • Computer skills including the use of spreadsheets and knowledge about evidence based practices and interventions that meet the socialemotional learning needs of all students

    Certification Licensure Training:
    Applicants must complete all requirements of this job as stated with the regulations of the Illinois State Board of Education and polices of the Oak Park & River Forest School District 200 Board of Education.

    Position Summary:
    This position requires the individual to provide individual counseling and grade level group meetings covering the academic socialemotional and postsecondary planning. The intern will be provided with expereinces in postsecondary planning high school transition college admissions process address social/emotional needs Special Education staffings and 504 meetings and evaluations. The position requires an individual to assist students with academic learning by providing strategic interventions that identify and address academic needs and/or socialemotionalenvironmental issues that interfere with the educational process. The School Counseling intern will work collaboratively with parents/guardians teachers school staff and community based resources that promote students positive school adjustment. The school counselor intern will be a member of a student service team and attend weekly MTSS meetings to problem solve cases identify/evaluate interventions and review ongoing data.

    Essential Duties with Supervision: (Other duties may be assigned)
    1. Determines and implements appropriate evidence based strategies to effect academic and socioemotional needs of students.
    2. Provides individual and group counseling to students.
    3. Collaborates with school staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies and interventions to promote student learning growth and development.
    4. Provides crisis intervention services.
    5. Provides staff consultation on academic behavioral and emotional issues affecting student participation in the learning process.
    6. Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students
    7. Conducts phone calls related to establishing communication and positive connections between the parent/guardian and school setting around identified issues.
    8. Interface with college representatives through our college callers program.
    9. Serves as liaison with agencies and assists in fostering communication between schools parents/guardians and community.
    10. Attends meetings and professional development activities as required.
    11. Collaborates to complete and implement functional behavior analyses and behavior intervention plans.

    Job Responsibilities: (Others responsibilities may be assigned.
    1. Works within the policies and regulations of the OPRF; Illinois public acts and regulations as described by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE); and applicable Federal laws regulations and guidelines applicable to the education of high school students and staff.
    2. Makes professional decisions that demonstrate support of the mission goals and best interests of OPRF as expressed Board of Education approved documents including the Strategic Plan and Building Improvement Plans.
    3. Responsible for the safety wellbeing and work output of others under his/her supervision.
    4. Utilizes community state and national resources where necessary to promote the safety and welfare of students.

    Performance Evaluation:
    Supervising school psychologist will complete all evaluation materials.
