The School Support Coordinator English Learners is responsible for providing instructional second language acquisition support to school principals and teachers including but not limited to assistingteachers in their efforts to ensure student mastery of standards and attainment of Student Learning Targets (SLTs) designing and providing professional development opportunities for teachers and principals developing standardsbased assessments and providing instructional resources.
Reporting to:
The Executive Director of Language Equity and Acquisition
Scope of Responsibility:
Assists in designing writing implementing monitoring and evaluating
curriculumandinstructionalpractices in second language acquisition.
Provides support to Human Resources in recruiting ESL teachers and bilingual El
paraeducatorslocally nationally and internationally
Collaborates with the Louisiana Department of Education to ensure district
compliancewithLDOEESL program.
Develops standardsbased assessments to assist teachers in their goal of ensuringstudents
mastery of standards
Provides and develops materials of instruction for second language acquisition classrooms
Coordinates and facilitates the evaluation and selection of textbooks and instructional
materials
Assures compliance with all local state and federal regulations/policies
Writes or revises grants and projects as assigned
Provides instructional assistance to schools with English learners population.
Provides professional development to staff and informs school principals of
scheduledprofessionaldevelopment sessions offered by the state and other entities
Collaborates with building and district administrators to assess ESL
programeffectivenessanddevelop appropriate improvement objectives for the capacity
building of instructional leaders
Maintains connections with schools via the Administrative Update website email
andscheduledvisits
Prepares written reports and oral presentations relative to dual language Curriculum
Instruction andAccountability matters
Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications as
assignedbytheChief Academic Officer or Executive Director of Language Equity and
Acquisition
Skills and Qualifications:

Minimum of five 5 years teaching experience in an English as a Second Language
program.
Collaborative management style with a proven track record of working with
diverseindividualstodrive decisionmaking and results
High degree of professionalism with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
whileconsistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking
Ability to organize and motivate people
Ability to conduct effective meetings and staff development activities
Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred)
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Maintain knowledge of technological advances in the field
Integrity initiative and good moral character
Understanding of regulations regarding the English Language Learners Programs
Ability to relate to students staff administration parents and community
Possess desirable attributes of personality enthusiasm and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with ESL curriculum instruction and assessment development on the district
stateornational level
Active affiliations with professional organizations related to scope of job responsibilities
National Board certification
Degree in subject area
Physical Involvement:
Sitting is required most of each workday. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing walking reaching bending lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportationtoschools work locations and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of worklocations including locations not on the ground floor.
