Job Description:
Hitachi Rail STS USA Inc. headquartered in Pittsburgh PA seeks a Senior Signaling Design Engineer to work in unanticipated locations throughout the United States. The employee will have to relocate but travel is not required from any particular location.
Accountabilities
The Senior Signaling Design Engineer will deliver hardware and functional signaling design for signaling projects in accordance with industry and company standards guidelines and processes. Specific duties include:
1 ensuring the review of input data by the civil data and drawings vehicle propulsion braking parameters automatic train control system equipment and parameters;
2 demonstrating the compliance document by RTM traceability and formal technical review process of hardware and signaling design;
3 delivery documentation generation pertaining to SBD Model ICDD Vehicle Performance CL Design Criteria V&V test reports and ICD message architecture of signaling system based on company guidelines process schedule delivery and industry standards;
4 implementing the model of the design criteria according to the project requirements to perform the safety aspects based on AREMA and CENELEC Standards and calculating the safe braking distance model per IEEE Std P1698 for rail transit vehicles;
5 identifying and capturing performance and service requirements of hardware and signaling design;
6 creating and monitoring the data of application simulation methods offering the most feasible and efficient method of calculating the safe breaking distances and analyzing headway performance related to the variations of the systems parameters;
7 ensuring monitors effective performance by Shadow mode data analysis for vehicle mobile to base radio communications transponder data WEU functionalities and Safety TSR Server for line system testing and revenue service vehicles;
8 developing wayside subsystem monitoring tools to verify the WEU functionalities STS and radio communication; and
9 developing the automation software upload tool to upload firmware system and radio configurations for mobile and base radios.
This position is for a roving employee who will work in unanticipated locations throughout the United States. The employee will have to relocate but travel is not required from any particular location.
Required Skills/ Knowledge
Must have experience:
1 with automatic train control system (ATC) with subsystems of ATP ATO and ATS positive train control (PTC) communicationbased train control (CBTC) for Signaling systems;
2 with communication system architecture for wire and wireless network management of OBC to mobile and base radio to wayside and office communications;
3 with ATC block and control line design principles and design criteria of various models;
4 developing full life cycle of project architecture for various rail signaling design and embedded systems;
5 developing the device modeling and perform simulation of the project;
6 evaluating and identifying new technologies for implementation of the system;
7 designing coding and debugging the embedded applications in various software languages and operating systems;
8 Embedded C C Visual C# Perl and Python programming languages in various operating systems (Linux/Unix Window RTOS QNX and VxWorks);
9 communication protocols including RS232 RS482 SPI and I2C;
10 database MS Access and MySql;
11 hardware/assembly languages: ARM processor Xilinx FPGA VHDL and Verilog;
12 Matlab/Simulink programming and Lab View simulation designs;
13 performing the test setup and system safety parameters including system integration testing with wayside carborne office and other systems;
14 overseeing several development teams in integrating their products into the enterprise deployment;
15 utilizing problem solving and analytical skills to provide optimal solutions;
16 demonstrating the ability to think strategically as part of a group to understand and evaluate the potential impact of longterm decisions; and
17 leading a team of engineers in performance analysis efforts.
Education/Qualifications
1 Masters degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering Electronics Engineering Computer Engineering or Information Technology plus
2 Five years of experience as a signaling engineer or embedded software engineer in or for the railway industry required.
In accordance with the DOTs FRA and FTA programs Hitachis substance screening program tests preemployment candidates and current employees as required for safetysensitive positions.
