Job Description

What will you be doing 

Were looking for a Lead Mechanical Development Engineer to take the reins on complex product development within the electrical and power domain. This is a hybrid role based in Luton where youll lead mechanical design activities on cuttingedge aerospace systems focusing on performance costefficiency and design for manufacture.

Your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Take the lead in designing mechanical components and systems that meet both technical and cost requirements.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing principles to simplify production reduce cost and boost performance.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to provide accurate specs and drawings to support supplier quotes.
  • Work closely with tooling and materials experts to choose the right materials and simplify manufacturing processes especially for injection moulded parts.
  • Drive down production costs through clever design choices and smart assembly strategies.
  • Plan and support testing both in the lab and in realworld conditions to ensure systems are safe reliable and meet all performance benchmarks.
  • Manage design reviews milestone tracking and technical risks throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Make key design decisions and mentor junior engineers as part of a closeknit fastpaced engineering team.

Qualifications :

Experience skills and qualifications required: 

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 5 years experience in mechanical product design and development ideally within aerospace automotive or other regulated industries.
  • Experience in cost reduction component optimisation and manufacturing simplification.
  • Handson experience supporting prototype builds and testing.
  • Familiar with verification & validation processes and confident working within the Vmodel lifecycle.
  • Comfortable producing highquality technical documentation drawings and specifications.
