Summary
National Jewish Health the leading respiratory hospital in the nation is seeking a motivated and detailoriented Laboratory Manager to join the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside top lung disease researchers and support groundbreaking multicenter studies in Sarcoidosis and Interstitial Lung Disease. The selected candidate will be coachable highly organized and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
In this role the Laboratory Manager will:
- Oversee daily laboratory operations manage resources and maintain budgets.
- Support and coordinate complex multicenter studies in collaboration with multiple Principal Investigators.
- Supervise and mentor laboratory staff and junior scientists.
- Acquire process and manage laboratory samples in partnership with clinical research teams.
- Perform scientific experiments and uphold highquality research practices.
- Contribute to the development of laboratory processes and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Utilize analytical skills and database and statistical software to support research efforts.

Position Summary
The position supports and advises laboratory staff. Manages laboratory finances and acts as a liaison to principal investigators and departments.
Essential Duties
- Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits selects hires trains orients mentors and rewards.
- Manages/supervises and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication leadership guidance and resources. Directs inservice and continuing education activities for staff. Monitors staff safety compliance and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
- Evaluates staff performance regularly and determines merit increases promotions and disciplinary actions.
- Manages laboratory finances in coordination with the cost administrator. Oversees cost containment supply budget and spend out of grants. Prepares capital equipment justifications.
- Plans organizes and supervises the work of subordinate laboratory researchers. Supports and advises graduate students fellows and temporary personnel.
- Oversees laboratory compliance with all essential institutional requirements pertaining to general biological and radiation safety.
- Coordinates laboratory samples database and biological resources.
- Coordinates with other departments for laboratory equipment repair and renovations.
- Plans develops operates records collaborates and reports on major research projects.
- Serves as the primary contact with the research staff for technical services on major techniques recording devices and statistical procedures relative to the specifically assigned field.
- Presents data in a formal setting.
- May coauthor manuscript publications.

Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Helps to build relationships between research and the community by assisting with laboratory tours and informative presentations.
- Represents the laboratory in relevant committee meetings.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education:BS /BA degree.
- Work Experience:6 years of laboratory experience or a Masters Degree and 4 years or laboratory experience.2years of experience leading the work of others required.
