Join the University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Neurology/Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit. As the Inpatient Neurology ICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP) you will manage a diverse population of neurocritical care patients including a significant volume of both blunt and penetrating neuro trauma cases. You will leverage your expertise in critical neurological conditions to care for critically ill adults with a wide range of neurological and multisystem disorders. As a member of the NeuroCritical Care team the APP will collaborate with emergency services inpatient units and other critical care areas throughout the hospital.

This role also offers the unique opportunity to work on the NeuroICU Consult Service caring for critically ill patients whose primary pathologies are nonneurological but who develop acute brain or spinal injuries. Additionally the APP will have the chance to participate in a dedicated postcritical care clinic providing continuity of care for patients transitioning out of the ICU.
Attending physicians conduct frequent rounds and are always available to discuss cases and treat patients. Radiology pathology and case conferences complement direct patient care ensuring a comprehensive approach to patient management.

The Nurse Practitioner is an advance practice nurse responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. The Nurse Practitioner manages a caseload of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice also includes family support teaching staff education consultation and research.

The Physician Assistant is qualified by academic and clinical education to provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational research clinical nursing specialist support and administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership. The PA has acquired the knowledge skills and judgment necessary to assist the physician through organized instruction and supervised practice. This licensed health professional will take patient histories conduct examinations diagnose illnesses pre and postoperative patient evaluation order and interpret laboratory tests and assist during complicated operations. The PA exercises autonomy in medical decision making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a fulltime equivalent 1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
