Education and Experience:
- A bachelors degree in communications graphic design or related field; AND
- It would be great if you have graphic design experience but dont let your lack of that keep you from applying!
- 2 years relevant print production experience; OR
- Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a casebycase basis.

General Services Division is a dynamic agency comprised of Capitol Facilities Maintenance Real Property & Leasing Surplus Property & Recycling and State Print & Mail. State Print & Mail (SPM) is seeking a detailoriented professional to join their Preflight team as a Design Specialist. This role reports to the Preflight Manager and collaborates on a 7person team comprised of three Design Specialists two Customer Service Reps and two Bindery Technicians. The Preflight team oversees orders in the shop endtoend. As the face of Print & Mail this team sets the standard for customer service. Customer service reps receive and initiate orders design technicians create files for production and bindery operators review orders for quality assurance before theyre delivered to the customer.
The ideal Design Specialist will use critical thinking skills understand technical aspects of design be comfortable using different software to prepare files for production and will collaborate with team members across the shop to ensure the quality of their work. The responsibilities of this position include:
- Analyze and prepare files for production including color conversion bleed creep postage requirements and page imposition
- Create production design files using typography typesetting color theory page layout
- Adhere to agency brand standards and help maintain brand consistency across the enterprise
- Use Adobe Acrobat Pro to combine split arrange rotate or crop pages
- Use software to clean up address files to meet mail requirements and standards
- Design and/or maintain templates for data and mail merges
- Use basic formulas and equations in excel to complete data file cleanup tasks
- Utilize critical thinking skills to troubleshoot files with the Production Team
- Support daily operations in the shop management information system (MIS) Slingshot
