Job Description

Job Title: Cost Accountant Full Time

Position Summary:
The Cost Accountant will play a critical role in analyzing costs for our landscaping projects ensuring accurate billing and providing financial insights to optimize our profitability. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problemsolver with strong analytical skills and a background in cost accounting ideally within the construction or service industries.
Key Responsibilities:
    • Track and analyze all costs related to landscaping services including labor materials equipment subcontractors and overhead.
    • Allocate costs to specific projects and ensure accurate documentation in the accounting system.
    • Perform regular cost analysis to identify cost variances inefficiencies and opportunities for cost optimization.
    • Provide detailed cost breakdowns and estimates for each landscaping project ensuring that all direct and indirect costs are accounted for.
    • Work with project managers to evaluate project profitability and make necessary adjustments to project costing.
    • Ensure that all invoices are accurate timely and in line with project contracts.
    • Prepare and issue detailed invoices reflecting actual costs incurred for labor materials and other services.
    • Prepare monthly billing status and overall profitability.
    • Analyze variances between projected and actual costs.
    • Assist in preparing reports for management to help make informed business decisions regarding pricing billing and cost management.
    • Communicate regularly with project managers and other departments to ensure accurate cost allocations and billing information.
    • Provide support and training to other team members on cost tracking billing procedures and financial best practices.
    • Work closely with senior management to offer insights into costsaving opportunities and ways to enhance profitability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Proven experience 2 years) in cost accounting or a similar role ideally within the construction landscaping or servicebased industries.
  • Experience with processing ADP payroll or similar payroll system.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles costing methods and billing processes.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g. Acumatica Sage or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and timemanagement skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Ability to think critically identify issues and propose actionable solutions.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and construction or service industry billing practices is a plus.
