GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (Department) is seeking a Habitat and Access Supervisor for the LanderCasper Region. This position supervises a multiregional work unit that manages wildlife habitat and public facilities on Wildlife Habitat Management Areas (WHMAs) and Public Access Areas(PAAs) in addition to Department buildings and facilities including two Regional offices and Wyoming Game and Fish Commissionowned and managed properties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.


  • Team Leadership: Leads and manages a team of 4 FTEs 3 are remotely located) 2 12month AWECs (contract employees) and up to 8 seasonal employees that administer and manage Departmentmanaged lands and facilities within the Lander and Casper Regions. Position makes recommendations on employee hiring discipline and termination. Conducts performance appraisals provides training and manages workflow to accomplish regional goals strategic plan objectives and ensures compliance with federal and state laws regulations and policies.
  • WHMA and PAA Management: Coordinates and manages wildlife habitat and public access on approximately 215000 acres across 10 WHMA 33 PAAs and the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp.
  • Regional Office Management: Oversees and coordinates the daytoday maintenance and building management activities for the Lander and Casper Regional offices ensuring the facilities and grounds are wellmaintained operational and safe. Budget development and administration for the Regional office management and maintenance including supplies and service contracts. Prepare and administer bids and contracts for facility maintenance and upgrades. Manage various projects and perform quality control and inspection of contractors to ensure they meet standards and specifications.
  • Public Facility Management: Develops improves and manages public facilities on WHMAs and PAAs including infrastructure such as roads parking areas out houses and signage.
  • Habitat Development: Coordinates and manages the planning and of terrestrial and aquatic habitat improvement and restoration projects. Provides logistical and technical expertise for a variety of habitat improvement projects and goals.
  • Regional Leadership Team representation: Serves as a member of the Lander Regional Leadership Team. Provides Services Division regional representation and contributes to Regional strategic decisionmaking.
  • Fiscal/Budgetary: Develops and manages multiple regional division budgets regional office budgets grant and project budgets. Generates a budget within specific budget constraints. Reviews and approves fiscal documents including pay documents requisitions contracts and grant applications. Oversees and inspects department facilities and assets (Regional offices department houses and cabins shops Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp) and equipment fleet allocating financial resources to ensure maintenance and operation.
  • Contracting: Manages all aspects of a variety of contracts. Creates bid specifications and hosts bid showings and writes contracts. Manages contract implementation project quality control and inspection and invoicing.
  • InterAgency Coordination: Represents the Department provides technical assistance and coordinates with other federal state and local agencies departments Native American tribes nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and the public on relevant issues including Departmentmanaged lands easements and property acquisitions.
  • Data Collection and Management: Coordinates and manages data collection to influence management decisions. Creates and reviews management plans. Coordinates restoration plans operations and projects based on data interpretation.
  • Personnel Training/Mentorship: Provides relevant training and guidance to employees including technical administrative and leadership training.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS


Preference will be given to those with a bachelors degree in wildlife management range management ecology biology zoology agriculture PLUS four years of professional work experience in wildlife management range management ecology biology zoology agriculture OR equivalent work experience.

**Must have a valid drivers license and be able to obtain CDL and a valid Medical Examiners certificate within 12 months of being hired.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Wildlife Management)
Experience:
13 years progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management)

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
CDL may be required
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
47 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management)
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
CDL may be required

  • FLSA: Exempt

  • This position reports to the Habitat and Access Branch Chief Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
