Job Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Radiological Assistance Program Technical Collaborator to work in our Environment Safety Health and Quality department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

You will report to the Emergency Management Manager and you will provide technical engineering collaboration support and oversight for daytoday activities related to the DOE Radiological Assistance Program (RAP). Assist with the implementation and continuing improvement of the DOE RAP and oversight and review of operations to ensure implementation of proper radiological control and nuclear safety requirements.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for duties related to RAP which may include the RAP Field Operations Guide (FOG). Duties may include developing and providing training consistent with the RAP Training Plan and RAP Regional Training Plan performing outreach efforts and coordination development and conducting drills and exercises with outside agencies; equipment operations and readiness assurance; Principal Scientist duties; supporting the Regional Program Manager (RPM) in daytoday management and technical direction at the contractor level.
  • Provide oversight and review of operations to ensure implementation of proper radiological control practices.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining the RAP regional management plan national and regional training plans and the implementing procedures and/or operating guides.
  • Participate in outreach activities by performing demonstrations training and other activities as directed or required by the RPM. May be responsible for planning and coordinating training drills and exercises with team members in accordance with the RRTP and overall RTP.
  • Train or assist others in the training of team members and others. Ensure team members are properly equipped in accordance with DOE Orders laws regulations the RAP FOG and the Training Plan.
  • Coordinate with other Regions to ensure best practices are standardized.
  • Maintain own qualifications and team member qualifications. Serve as a team member and/or Team Captain (TC) as needed.
  • Attend conference calls and semiannual group meetings.
  • Assist with alerting mobilizing and deploying the regional RAP teams when requested. May deploy with the oncall RAP team to augment their capabilities when deemed appropriate.
  • Confer with the RPM ROM FTL and/or Team Captain (TC) to ensure the correct number and mix of contractor personnel are identified and the team is assembled for deployment.
  • Assist with ensuring the RAP team has all the equipment needed for the deployment. Teams may be deployed within the local area the regional states outside of the region and/or outside of the continental United States.
  • Ensure followon equipment and personnel are available when needed.
  • In response conditions that warrant deployment of Federal national level response assets translate strategy into actions for implementation and function within established Incident Command System (ICS) parameters and serve in support positions assigned by Incident Command (IC).
  • Ensure the information is properly processed and secured in accordance with applicable DOE and/or DOD policies and procedures.
  • May have responsibilities related to budget formulation and implementation and ensuring resource readiness requirements are met.
  • May assist with or lead selfassessments of the Regional Program. May develop corrective actions from lessons learned from all activities and incorporate them by updating plans processes procedures and training.
  • May mentor junior staff.
  • May act as a subject matter expert for RAP DOE Region 6 Training and Outreach Coordinator Equipment Coordinator Principal Scientist Regional Operations Manager etc. Perform duties related to area of focus in accordance with guidelines plans RAP FOG DOE Orders laws and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Level 3: Bachelors degree in a relevant Engineering or Physical Science discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or masters degree and 2 years of relevant experience or 11 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Level 4: Bachelors degree in a relevant Engineering or Physical Science discipline and 9 years of relevant experience or masters degree and 6 years of relevant experience or 15 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Relevant experience commensurate with level (Radiological Engineering Health Physics/Science related fields).
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred Knowledge Skills Experience:

  • Experience within a DOEsupported Health Physics/Radiological Control organization.

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 3 $93204 $191076 / Level 4 $111888 $229284. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education relevant experience and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a preemployment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • MultiLevel: This is a multilevel posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
