Managing Editor SCOTUSblog
The ideal candidate should possess some knowledge of the Supreme Court or the law in general and have experience in journalism. A law degree is not required. Candidates must be adept at multitasking and working in a fastpaced environment that requires juggling numerous substantive and administrative tasks often on tight deadlines. Strong writing and editing are essential as is a laserlike attention to detailand a good sense of humor doesnt hurt.
Specifically the job will entail:
Editing articles including copyediting for AP and SCOTUSblogs internal style guidelines as well as substantive revisions to ensure that articles are written in plain English
Preparing the Morning Read a collection posted each weekday morning of news articles and commentary related to the Supreme Court
Using the WordPress VIP content management system to prepare articles for publication and to update the homepage the statistics page the calendar all case pages and other aspects of the site
Working with a thirdparty liveblogging platform to set up and run the opinionday live blog
Working with the Executive Editor software developers and others from The Dispatch family on a refresh of the website
Tracking statistics creating infographics and preparing the annual Stat Pack Writing articles on and analyses of the Supreme Court with the ability to take initiative on specific topic areas and pitch new coverage ideas
Maintaining SCOTUSblogs X and Bluesky accounts
Managing outside contractors and vendors as needed
Reviewing case pages created by law students
In addition to the qualifications described above the strongest candidates will have any of the following skills:
Strong knowledge of AP style
Experience with web content management systems and HTML
Web development experience
Data journalism or infographic experience
Experience with socialmedia outreach especially X and Bluesky
This is a fulltime position with comprehensive benefits including 401(k) matching and excellent health insurance. The individual may work remotely but should be willing to occasionally come to Washington D.C. We are looking to hire someone as soon as possible.
