Job Vacancy: Subject Matter Expert Transport & Infrastructure
Location: Hemel Hempstead England
Job Type: Permanent full time opportunity
Most of the work in this role will be performed on BSI premises but working off site may be required (possibly globally).
BSI are unable to provide visa sponsorship or relocation costs for this vacancy
Purpose of Position
BSIs Product Certification Business Unit is a key provider of testing and certification services to a range of industries. This role provides expertise and technical leadership to the broader BSI company within this specialist area.
The successful applicant will support the Team Manager with technical accreditation and HSE administration and development tasks. They will also carry out some evaluation of products and/or services primarily for safety efficiency fitness for purpose or against bespoke customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
To be the owner of the methodologies related to Transport & Infrastructure evaluation performed by BSI.
Resolving technical disputes devising & authorising interpretation where requirements are ambiguous. Review & authorise technical reports
Reviewing new & amended standards. Researching & developing new test methods
Training and mentoring colleagues. Driving continual improvement projects.
Liaising & driving lab improvements & CapEx projects
Represent BSI in relevant industry technical groups.
Maintain complete & traceable records & reports.
Dimensions
The role delivers UKAS accredited (and unaccredited) product evaluation activities on products on behalf of BSI. Projects delivered by the business are relatively short term & high quality right first time product evaluation is crucial.
The job holders judgement will support ongoing activities of the lab area meeting the requirements of certification & accreditation decisions taken by the business.
Delivers projects or tasks allocated in support of the Team Manager and works on own initiative.
Involved in many projects simultaneously each of which will be subject to time pressures from clients. Typically around 50 projects pa.
The successful applicant will have:
Expert knowledge of International European or British standards &/or other relevant documents & procedures.
Minimum HNC/HND or equivalent in an appropriate discipline.
Expereince of Testing in the transport & infrastructure discipline eg. pipes copper tubing copper fittings vehicle glass sharps manhole covers etc.
Good communication skills including the ability to write clear & concise reports or documents.
Proactive customer focused approach.
Ability to work as a team & to tight time scales.
IT literate in Word and Excel.
Extensive experience in testing techniques used in BSI or similar laboratories. Including familiarity with quality requirements detailed in relative international goodpractice documents (such as ISO 17025.
Ability to solve problems proactively.
