Job Title: Stepping Stones Mentor 2 positions available)
Department: Human Resources
Reports to: Stepping Stones Coordinator
FLSA Status: NonExempt
Time Status: Up to 35 hours per week
TS Range: 4/5 $19.03 hourly)

SUMMARY: Provide leadership to youth ages 1315 with the development of job skills through the completion of community based projects/activities. These projects will be focused on promoting an increased understanding of Squaxin Island Tribal culture through activities which teach foundational work ethics and pride in the community. Developing a positive relationship with his/her group in a safe environment is key to this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Provide a positive learning environment and encouraging development of skills through active leadership.
Guide direct and participate with your group of 1214yearold youth in daily activities.
Uphold program rules and operating principles and policies and procedures.
Maintain supervision of the youth in your care at all times.
Responsible for direct training and instruction of the youth under your supervision.
Develop group cohesiveness. Encourage successful completion of program objectives with coworkers and participants.
Assist in the social mental and emotional development of youth in the group.
Participate in daily program preparation meetings of program staff.
Encourage respect for staff personal property Squaxin Island Tribal equipment and facilities.
Must attend entire preprogram staff training June 23 2025 through June 27 2025 AND be available to work the entire 6 weeks of the Stepping Stones Program as a mentor from June 30 2025 through August 8 2025.
Must be available to work Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. per the above listed dates.
Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will be responsible for the supervision of groups of youth ages 1214 years.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: AA OR High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years of related experience working with tribal youth ages 13 15 in a community setting OR 4 years of related experience working with tribal youth ages 13 15 in a community setting.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS: Must pass WATCH and Tribal Court Background Check (No crimes against people. All applicants must have CPR/First Aid certification and Food Handlers Permit prior to the beginning of the program (This will be included in the staff training).

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; stand walk use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms; the employee is occasionally required to sit climb or balance stoop kneel or crawl. The employee must also frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
This position requires close vision distance vision peripheral vision and an ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus).

The employee will frequently be working in outdoor weather conditions and occasionally working near moving or mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

THERE WILL BE NO TOLERANCE FOR THE USE OF ALCOHOL OR ILLEGAL WHILE EMPLOYED IN STEPPING STONES. USE OF TOBACCO IN FRONT OF THE YOUTH OR DURING WORK TIME IS NOT ALLOWED. ANY VIOLATION OF THESE POLICIES IS CAUSE FOR IMMEDIATE TERMINATION.
