POSITION SUMMARY
The Wellness Specialist will lead the implementation of the Bridges to Wellness program a
culturally responsive mental health initiative designed to address the needs of refugees and
immigrants in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. This position will be responsible for
developing and delivering mental health education establishing peer support groups
coordinating with community partners and ensuring the program meets its stated outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design and implement culturally responsive mental health education workshops for
refugee and immigrant populations
• Establish and facilitate peer support groups with a focus on Haitian Congolese
Ukrainian Afghan Bhutanese and etc. communities
• Develop and maintain relationships with mental health service providers and community
partners
• Create and implement assessment tools to evaluate program effectiveness
• Train staff and community leaders on traumainformed approaches to mental health
• Coordinate “Wellness Wednesday” activities promoting mental health awareness
• Develop and maintain a referral system for specialized mental health services
• Track program metrics and prepare reports for funders and organizational leadership
• Ensure cultural appropriateness of all program materials and activities
• Supervise program volunteers and support staff
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in social work Psychology Public Health or related field preferred;
High Diploma with relevant experience considered
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with refugee and immigrant populations
• Knowledge of traumainformed care and mental health support strategies
• Experience developing and facilitating educational workshops and support groups
• Strong cultural competency and demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to train and supervise others
• Experience with program development and evaluation
