Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Biologist/Senior Project Manager for immediate employment within AECOMs Southern California Natural Resources Group. This hybrid role will be based in our San Diego CA office.

This position would focus on project and technical management of a range of natural resource projects in the southern California region including biological surveys regulatory compliance and permitting with a focus on So Cal utility local agency and renewables clients. Primary duties include managing projects involving impact assessments mitigation planning regulatory compliance and permitting efforts including CEQA/NEPA 404/401 CESA and ESA and preparing environmental documents and management plans. The successful candidate will contribute to growth of the So Cal department through marketing pursuits including proposal preparation interviews and business development. Technical mentorship and succession planning for the next generation of biological resources leadership is also a key element of this role. 

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Manage projects and teams to prepare large complex natural resources documents such as Biological Technical Reports Biological Assessments Resource Permit Applications and Habitat Conservation Plans. Operates as primary author or senior reviewer as appropriate
  • Manage multidisciplinary projects that include all aspects of environmental analysis (e.g. biological cultural air quality traffic etc.
  • Manage projects/programs requiring adherence to permit conditions with largescale field efforts and intensive schedules
  • Work on environmental documents related to high profile infrastructure projects with particular emphasis on renewable energy and electric transmission projects
  • Manage due diligence efforts for siting renewable energy projects and associated infrastructure
  • Perform project management duties such as forecasting tracking accounting updates invoicing progress reports and scheduling and takes corrective action where necessary
  • Operates as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects
  • Oversee the work of early career staff and provide technical mentorship
  • Participates in interviews with large or small team for a variety of clients
  • Contributes to growth of practice through business development including generating business via existing and new contracts

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in related field (biology ecology botany). 
  • 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education natural resources/project management.
  • Valid U.S drivers license is required for this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in related field
  • 15 years of experience in natural resources/project management
  • Experience with protocol wildlife surveys habitat assessments and/or wildlife tracking
  • Electric transmission and renewable energy (e.g. solar wind energy storage) experience through preparing biological impact assessments CEQA and/or NEPA documents routing and siting critical issues analysis land use entitlement applications and/or overseeing multidisciplinary technical teams for resource technical studies.
  • Experience as Project Manager on environmental planning and permitting projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to effectively manage tasks and interact with clients staff and subconsultants.
  • Data management experience including electronic data collection in field; managing large data sets
  • Ability to work in a highpaced environment with dynamic internal and client priorities
  • Successful experience preparing winning proposals
