Serves as a lead project engineering technician applying expert knowledge of electronic theory circuit design for the experimental development fabrication adaptation or modification of highly complex and complete mechanisms and electromechanical assemblies and systems such as Target Information Centers Radar Mortar Locators Surveillance Antenna Systems and Communication Systems and other types of new and specialized multiservice applications.
This work requires the abilities to research/develop new components and recommends enhanced design techniques determining that the basic objectives are not contrary to general electronic principles or incompatible with other parts of the system.
Coordinates and integrates design tasks and resolves design problems with other technical personnel.
Designs and/or performs tests and experiments to measure and develop criteria i.e. to prove or disprove the feasibility of preliminary design.
Obtains optimum operational efficiency by improving performance until final model possesses required features.
Performs final evaluation of new design and assures that all equipment is operating properly while conducting system tests including fieldtesting.
Fabricates specialized fixtures including circuit board assembly soldering surface mount and miniature type components chassis wiring and miscellaneous component and assembly testing.
Is knowledgeable of specialized mounting techniques for components and assemblies subjected to adverse environments.
Serves as an authority on various assembly techniques and procedures.
Maintains technical documentation on all designs and test results.
Contributes to the preparation of formal reports on special technical investigations or studies.
