Job Description

The Department of Physics & Astronomy invites applications for a renewable oneyear assistant professor position starting August 16 2025. Primary teaching responsibilities include the lectures and labs of a fullyear sequence in introductory algebrabased physics that primarily serves students pursuing prehealth careers.

Requirements:

  • Should ideally have several years of experience teaching introductory physics with IPLS (introductory physics for life sciences) or prehealth orientation and experience in curriculum development for IPLS.
  • Must have earned a Ph.D. (strongly preferred) or M.S. in Physics or a closely related field.
  • Clear commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
  • The expected teaching load for this position is 32 contact hours which would take the form of 2 lectures and 2 labs in fall term 2 lectures and 3 labs in spring term plus 1 course in January term or in the summer term.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters in Physics or closely related field
  • Three years of undergraduate physics teaching
  • Commitment to best pedagogical practices in physics education
  • Record of success in undergraduate physics instruction
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse student population in the classroom
